A Greene County jury Wednesday found a California man guilty of simple assault in a July 7, 2013, incident on a boat near the Greene Cove Yacht Club in Clarksville.

Mark Francis Scholl, 48, of 166 Skyline Drive, was arrested after he physically assaulted Brandon Joseph Durbin while Durbin was using the light of a cell phone to untangle an anchor line as Scholl was attempting to dock his boat.

Durbin said Scholl told him the light from the cell phone was bothering his eyes and then began to punch him in the face. Scholl told the jury Durbin was shining the light in his face but denied punching him. He said Durbin’s injuries were caused by a heavy chair falling on him inside the cabin of the boat.

Scholl is to have no contact with Durbin. He will be sentenced at a later date.
