Infant in Western Pa. home grazed by hunter’s bullet

CLUNE (AP) – Authorities in Western Pennsylvania say a stray bullet grazed the head of a 5-day-old infant in what officials are calling a hunting accident.

Indiana County prosecutors said the bullet came into a home near Saltsburg in Young Township at about 7 p.m. Thursday.

District Attorney Pat Dougherty said the infant’s father had been sitting on a couch holding the infant when the bullet tore through the window of the home.

Dougherty said the bullet is believed to have come from hunters on private property across the street. He said they had permission to be there.

The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where a condition report was not immediately available.

State police are investigating, but Dougherty said the case “appears to be an accidental shooting.”
