Grandfather dies, teen hurt in hit-and-run

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Authorities said a 73-year-old grandfather died and his 13-year-old grandson was injured when an SUV hit their car in Philadelphia.

Police said the accident happened at about 8:15 p.m. Friday in Philadelphia’s Mt. Airy neighborhood. The grandfather had just picked the boy up from football practice when an SUV ran a stop sign and hit their car.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. His grandson was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police said the SUV’s 21-year-old driver and his 27-year-old passenger fled but were apprehended a short time later. Police expect to file charges, and toxicology tests are pending.
