PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Police said a woman was killed as she was trying to cross a Philadelphia street with her 8-year-old son and was hit by a public transit bus.

They said the SEPTA bus was turning onto the avenue about 7:30 p.m. Friday and the 29-year-old woman began running with the boy to get across when she was hit and then dragged under the vehicle’s wheels.

Police said they found her and the boy in the middle of Washington Avenue near 15th Street.

Authorities said the child was taken to a hospital. His injuries were not considered life threatening.

They did not identify the mother or her son. No passengers were aboard the bus at the time.
