Charleroi Council fails to name a new mayor
CHARLEROI – Charleroi Council was unable Thursday to reach majority votes on selecting one of two candidates to replace former borough Mayor John Mollenauer, who resigned Tuesday.
The decision to select a new mayor will move to a local vacancy board, which is expected to meet on the issue Wednesday, Charleroi Borough Manager Donn Henderson said.
Former Charleroi councilman Mark Alterici and Patrick Garman, an administrator of an area surgery center, were under consideration for the post by council Thursday. Henderson said Garman’s residency was questioned at the meeting.
Mollenauer was in the second year of his first term as mayor and said he no longer felt welcome in office.
