City man sentenced to prison for rape
A Washington man was sentenced Tuesday to 18 to 36 years in prison for the violent rape of a woman.
Darius Allen Duncan, 22, was sentenced by Washington County Judge John F. DiSalle after pleading guilty to rape by forcible compulsion, rape of an unconscious victim, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint and terroristic threats.
Duncan was accused of raping the woman on multiple occasions Nov. 26, 2013, while her two young children were present. He was also sentenced on two counts of corruption of minors.
Police said Duncan forced his way into the home of the woman, beat and raped her and held her against her will for nine hours. When he left the next morning, Duncan threatened to kill the woman if she called police.
The pair knew each other but were not dating.
The woman reported the assault 30 minutes later, and Duncan was taken into custody the same day.
The woman was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of severe injuries to her face, head, abdomen, pelvic region and legs. The woman also suffered severe marks around her neck, wrists and ankles.
Deputy District Attorney Traci McDonald Kemp called the assault “heinous.”
“It was made even more egregious considering that her 1- and 2-year-old children witnessed the assault on their mother,” she said in a press release.
Duncan, who was held on a $50,000 bond, will remain in Washington County jail until he is transferred to a state prison. He was given credit for time served.
