Police remove five from Washington house after tense standoff; one charged
One person is facing charges after police surrounded a Washington home Friday morning with their guns drawn.
Russell Porter Jr., 19, whose address is unknown, faces possession of heroin and firearms charges, Washington police said.
He is being held in Washington County jail until his video arraignment, scheduled for late Friday.
Five people were removed from the home without incident and police said additional suspects could also face charges.
Washington police said four women and Porter were taken into custody before the 30-minute standoff ended at 690 Addison St. in the city’s West End. No one was injured, police said.
Numerous officers from several departments were summoned to the two-story gray house about 10:15 a.m. after Porter stuck his head out of a window while holding a gun as city police were returning two juvenile retail theft suspects to the residence.
A police officer screamed for Porter to get back inside the house. He later told police there were no guns in the house after he came outside.
The standoff ended about 10:50 a.m., only after police escorted one of the women who was screaming incoherently to the street and into a police cruiser.
Police Capt. Bob Wilson said police later returned to 690 Addison St. with a search warrant and seized a loaded 9mm handgun stolen from California Borough and 762 stamp bags of heroin found inside. The items were being processed Friday afternoon.
