Judge to meet with lawyers in new appeal by Jerry Sandusky
HARRISBURG (AP) – A judge will soon meet in private with prosecutors and Jerry Sandusky’s attorney about a newly filed appeal by the former Penn State assistant football coach.
On Monday, Judge John Cleland scheduled a status conference for April 22 in Bellefonte.
The meeting will address the schedule for future proceedings.
Sandusky’s attorney filed a Post-Conviction Relief Act appeal last week, but it’s under seal and the judge is keeping it that way for now.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court last year declined to review Sandusky’s 45-count conviction in 2012 for child sexual abuse.
The appeal he’s pursuing now is under a law that limits it to alleged constitutional violations, claims his lawyers didn’t represent him properly or newly discovered evidence.
Sandusky’s attorney isn’t commenting on its details.
Sandusky, a Washington native, is serving a sentence of 30 to 60 years at SCI-Greene.
