Police: 9-year-old critical after shot by ‘test-fired’ gun

1 min read

LANCASTER (AP) – Police say a 9-year-old boy has been critically injured after a relative accidentally shot him while test-firing a gun at a Pennsylvania home.

Police in Lancaster aren’t identifying the boy or the person who fired the shot about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the person who fired the gun is related to the boy, who was playing in a front yard and was wounded when the bullet went through a door.

Lancaster police Chief Keith Sadler says the shooting was “extremely unfortunate” and appears to be an accident.

Police say the boy was taken to Lancaster General Hospital but later transferred to Hershey Medical Center in critical condition.

Police are conferring with the Lancaster County district attorney’s office to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed.
