2 min read

Two Washington women were arrested Friday on warrants after they allegedly stole more than $1,000 from another woman’s bank account last month.

Brittany Joanne Ellis, 29, of West Hallam Avenue, and Amber Lee Campbell, 20, of Donnan Avenue, were charged by state police with theft by deception, access device fraud, identity theft and theft.

The two are accused of stealing a debit card from the Canton Township home of Destiney Ealy and using it to make two $503 withdrawals from her account March 23. State police checked bank surveillance video and identified Ellis and Campbell as the two women using the Jackson Hewitt Preferred debit card to withdraw the money. Ealy told police the two were her former roommates.

Ellis also was wanted on a warrant stemming from a June 13 traffic stop by state police on West Chestnut Street at Washington Street in Washington. Police said she smoked synthetic marijuana and was under the influence of morphine when she was stopped. She also had a child unrestrained in a car seat. Police charged her with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment and several traffic violations.

Both women were arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on their respective charges. Ellis was placed in Washington County jail on $12,500 bond, while Campbell was placed in jail on $10,000 bond.
