Route 21 work to bring traffic restrictions
Drivers using Route 21 to Uniontown are being warned of new traffic restrictions that will be in place starting Monday as the result of ongoing construction in the Cherry Tree area.
The bridge that carries Route 21 over Route 119 will be restricted to single-lane, one-way traffic, allowing traffic to travel only east toward Uniontown Hospital, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The restriction will begin just east of the Uniontown Mall entrance on Route 21 and run to Easy Street and remain in place around the clock until the estimated reopening Aug. 6. A posted detour will be in place for westbound traffic.
Work also will require nighttime single-lane restrictions between Matthew Drive and the Uniontown Mall entrance between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers. College Avenue will be closed at the Route 21 intersection to allow crews to relocate Daniel Drive near the Taco Bell. During this phase, all lanes on Route 21 between Franco’s Driving Range and Easy Street will be reduced to 11 feet in width.
The restrictions also include daylight, intermittent single-lane closures on Route 119 under the Route 21 bridge. This will allow crews to safely perform bridge work.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through all work area.
