Canonsburg man arrested after courthouse disturbance

2 min read

A Canonsburg man was arrested Wednesday morning by Washington County sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly created a disturbance at the clerk of courts office in Washington County Courthouse, prompting an employee to hit the panic alarm.

Brad Douglas Yasek, 28, of 265 Vine St., was at the office about 10:45 a.m. to pay on fines and related costs assessed after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol filed in connection with a July 31, 2011, crash on Interstate 70 in Canton Township.

When deputies arrived after getting the alarm, they said they found a shaken clerk of courts employee behind a divided door in the office and saw Yasek, who was described as being very agitated and loud. When a deputy told him to calm down, he reportedly became more belligerent.

The employee told Deputy Kristie Mamarella she tried to explain to Yasek that an overpayment he made last month did not count toward what he owed as a payment for the current month. The worker said Yasek then became enraged and started screaming profanities. The employee told the deputy she had received a call from the Washington County adult probation office, where he allegedly had acted the same way.

According to the sheriff’s department, Yasek initially refused to give the deputy his driver’s license so she could obtain his information but then threw his wallet down behind him. He was then taken into custody.

Yasek was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on charges of harassment and disorderly conduct. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for April 20 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
