Pittsburgh diocese closes school after unspecified threat
MOUNT LEBANON, Pa. (AP) — The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh says a suburban high school has been closed because of an unspecified “threat of violence” that’s being investigated by local police and the FBI.
Mount Lebanon police and Pittsburgh-based FBI officials didn’t immediately return messages for comment on the announcement Wednesday about Seton-LaSalle High School.
The school’s website says classes are canceled and the school is closed “due to power issues.” But a news release from the diocese says the school was closed “due to a threat of violence that was received overnight.”
A diocesan spokesman didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
It was not immediately known if authorities considered the threat credible, or exactly what was threatened.
The diocese says the school “will follow the directives of law enforcement in decisions about when to re-open.”
