Area man jailed for assault, robbery

A Bentleyville man was arraigned Wednesday on two warrants obtained by state police after he allegedly assaulted family members and broke into a detached garage at the home of his brother-in-law Sunday afternoon.

Keith Allen Richards, 49, of 519 Bentleyville Road, is charged with several counts of simple assault and harassment as well as disorderly conduct for allegedly assaulting family members at his mother’s home at 219 Johnston St.

Richards is accused of punching and shoving his mother, Patricia Richards, and his niece Chantay Richards-Reese, suffered a bloody nose in the assault, police said. He also allegedly struck his sister, Tina Jackson, brother-in-law, McArthur Jackson, and his father, Zenneth Richards. He also allegedly threatened family members.

Keith Richards is also charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief for allegedly breaking into the garage at the home of his brother-in-law. Richards was reportedly staying with Jackson, police said.

Richards is accused of damaging the door, floor and walls. The two men got into a fight about the break-in, police said.

He was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson and placed in Washington County jail on a $20,000 percentage bond. A preliminary hearing on both sets of charges is set for April 14 before Thompson.
