Greene County libraries are have a “fine free” week next week in celebration of National Library Week, April 12-18. Patrons of both the Eva K. Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg and Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels can bring in overdue materials and ask to have the fines removed.
The Greene County Food Security Partnership is hosting a free four-part workshop called Sauté and Save. Each week will feature healthy cooking demonstrations and each week will focus on a different topic, including home gardening, budgeting, couponing, and eating healthy on a budget. Sessions will be held April 22 and 29, and May 6 and 13 each day from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. All sessions will be held at the Corner Cupboard Food Bank at 881 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg. Individuals can register now by calling Stacey Dikun at 724-852-5276. Childcare will be provided upon request. Attendees at all four sessions will be entered to win prizes.
A mission trip benefit dinner will be held this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Jefferson Community Center. The menu includes baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green lima beans, candy carrots, homemade applesauce, rolls, desserts, and beverage. The cost is $15 for adults. Children under 12 cost $6. Area churchmen will travel to Washington, N.C., an area hit by two tornadoes and a hurricane, to help from May 31 to June 6.
The Greene County Veterans Affairs veterans outreach program scheduled for April 28 at the Bobtown Senior Center has been canceled.
Flags for veterans’ graves will be available from Greene County Veterans Affairs. Organizations such as American Legion and VFW posts, can pick up flags from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 1 in the alley at the rear of the Veterans Affairs office at 22 W. High St., Waynesburg. The distribution for cemeteries will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, May 4 through May 22 at the Veterans Affairs office. For information, call at 724-852-5275.
