Warrant obtained in Canton home invasion
State police obtained an arrest warrant for a second man in connection with a March 2014 home invasion at a Canton Township residence.
James Glenn Megyesy, 19, whose last known address was Governor’s Circle, Washington, was charged Monday with aggravated and simple assault, burglary, robbery, conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment and harassment in connection with the March 24, 2014, incident at the Brook Avenue home of Harold Sibert.
Brad P. Herchenroder, 29, of Washington, was arrested the day of the home invasion after turning himself in to police.
He initially indicated he was the only one involved.
On Sept. 14, he met with Trooper Thomas Schuster and assistant district attorney Jerry Moschetta and allegedly told them Megyesy was involved in the home invasion.
Sibert testified at Herchenroder’s hearing last April he was sprayed in the face with pepper spray, knocked to the floor and beaten.
The alleged victim, who was 69 years old at the time of the attack, was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.
His wallet was stolen, as was his pickup truck, which allegedly was abandoned by Herchenroder at a park off Cleveland Road in North Franklin Township.
Herchenroder allegedly told Schuster, who filed the charges, and Moschetta it was Megyesy who sprayed Sibert with pepper spray, and the two went to Sibert’s residence earlier and broke in, but could not find anything to steal. They decided to return when the Canton man returned home from work.
Herchenroder, who has remained in jail on $20,000 bond since his arrest last year, is scheduled to enter a plea in the case next month.
Anyone with information on Megyesy’s whereabouts is asked to call state police at 724-223-5200.
