Husband and wife charged in East Bethlehem assault
A Marianna husband and wife were arrested Thursday after they allegedly assaulted a man in Vestaburg on Monday night.
James W. Wright Jr., 33, and April Wright, 35, both of 419 Oklahoma St., are each charged by East Bethlehem Township police with aggravated and simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment stemming from the assault of 35-year-old Michael Sims of Marianna.
Police were called to 106 First St. about 10:20 p.m. Monday for a report of an assault with injuries. Police saw Sims had a gash to the back of his head and a cut under his eye.
Police learned the Wrights went to the Vestaburg address to confront Sims about an incident involving their son. The two reportedly started a fight with Sims, who reportedly grabbed a bat to defend himself, police said.
April Wright allegedly took the bat from Sims, and her husband allegedly struck Sims in the face. April Wright allegedly hit Sims in the face with the bat. Sims fell to the ground and was hit several more times, police said. While on the ground, he was reportedly stabbed in the shin with a sharp object.
Both were arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis. James Wright was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond while his wife was placed in jail on $5,000 bond. Both are scheduled for a May 4 preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
