McMURRAY – The second annual Peters Township Farmers Market will be bigger than last year and have a something for everyone, the organizers said.

The Rev. Kris McInnes of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Venetia, who along with a handful of his parishioners and a group of volunteers, Seashal Belldina, Gianna Thomas, Mey Walker, Kathy Carter, Misty Menarcheck, Beth White, Amy Michalesko and Chelsea Johnston, started the market last year. He said there will be 30 full-time vendors who will sell fresh produce, prepared foods and even wine.

The farmers’ market will begin May 20 and be held every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. David’s, 905 E. McMurray Road, until Oct. 14. More than 500 people came to each market last year, McInnes said.

McInnes said when in he came to Peters Township in 2012, there was no place where the community could gather, which was the genesis of the market. Also, there was no easily accessible farmers’ market for township residents.

“A lot of people like farmers’ markets and the culture,” said McInnes. “They also like knowing where their food comes from.”

This year’s market will also have six to eight rotating vendors, including Simmons Farm of McMurray, Kern Farms of Eighty Four, Emerald Valley Artisans of Scenery Hill and Freedom Farms of Butler. The market’s bylaws require all vendors be within 100 miles of the church.

There will also be prepared food available from vendors such as Hello Hummus of Pittsburgh, Enrirco Biscotti Co. in the Strip District, GOODLife Juices of Venetia, Eliza’s Oven of Pittsburgh and Pitaland of Brookline. Two area wineries, J&D Cellars Winery and Vineyard of Eighty Four and Christian Clay Winery of Chalk Hill will have booths at the market, where bottles of wine can be purchased.

Each market will have entertainment including musical acts, as well as cooking demonstrations from area restaurants such as Ristorante Arlecchino in Peters and culinary students from Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Plus, the market will have food trucks.
