Daffodil show set for this weekend
A 2015 American Daffodil Society-approved, juried daffodil show will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Joe Hamm’s daffodil garden, 99 Maple Road off Route 331, Buffalo Village, west of Washington.
Both members of the daffodil society and nonmembers are welcome to submit entries. The show will include juried floral arrangements presented by the Martha Washington Garden Club and a photography exhibit.
From Washington, drivers should take Route 844 west, make a left turn onto Route 331, Brush Run Road, and then a right turn onto Maple Road.
Hamm said Thursday that his garden is “very much” in full bloom. “The frost we were supposed to get (Wednesday) night didn’t affect them one iota.”
The gardens are open daily and free to the public to tour through the end of April. There are more than 50 beds of 2,000 different daffodil cultivars and 30,000 blooms of many varieties, shapes and colors.
Recognized by the American Daffodil Society as an official display garden in 2013, Hamm’s is one of a kind in Western Pennsylvania. Hamm shares this designation with only one other garden in Pennsylvania, Longwood Gardens of Kennett Square in eastern Pennsylvania.
