BRADDOCK (AP) – A kayaker died after his boat overturned near Pittsburgh and left him stranded in the frigid Monongahela River for about 20 minutes.

Police said 46-year-old Ronald Vahosky was reaching for something when his kayak overturned Thursday and became lodged underneath a coal barge in Braddock.

Officials said first responders performed CPR and Vahosky had a pulse when he was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at UPMC-Presbyterian.

Vahosky was from Munhall, about six miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
