Police: Man impersonates a constable, brings woman to jail

1 min read

HOMEWOOD (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania man has been charged with impersonating a constable and illegally taking a woman to jail.

Police said Thursday that 41-year-old Karl Edmonds claimed he was a constable and a part of a fugitive task force to get a 19-year-old woman to turn herself in to him.

But Edmonds says he did nothing wrong.

Authorities say she was in the process of turning herself in on a warrant when she spoke with Edmonds. Police say he told her that she could spend 10 years in jail if she didn’t turn herself in.

Edmonds and his twin brother, who is a constable, handcuffed her and brought her to the Allegheny County Jail last month.

Police say Edmonds received a reward from a bail bond agency for the arrest.
