South Strabane police seek driver in suspected road rage
South Strabane Township police are looking for the driver who reportedly struck another motorist with his vehicle during an incident of suspected road rage Wednesday night.
Township police Detective Mike Schidlmeier said the victim got out of his car on East Maiden Street (Route 40) near Waynesburg Road (Route 19) in the Pancake area about 7:20 p.m. and was approaching the other driver’s vehicle when he was struck.
“It appears there may have been light contact between the two vehicles before the one driver got out. It appears that he wanted to talk to the other driver,” Schidlemeier said. “The other driver just drove around the other vehicle and struck the other driver.”
The victim, identified only as a Washington man in his 20s, was driving a black vehicle.
The suspect’s vehicle is a white, four-door sedan, possibly a Ford. It had a sunroof, an antenna on the back side of the roof and a spoiler. The driver is a white man, 40 to 50 years old with gray hair.
Witnesses told police the driver fled west toward Washington.
The victim was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with severe, but not life-threatening, injuries to his legs and hands. Schidlmeier said he is in stable condition.
The detective said police have not been able to get much information from the victim. Police obtained images of the suspect’s vehicle from a surveillance camera and are checking additional cameras in the area.
“This is a heavily traveled area,” Schidlmeier said. “We are asking anybody who was traveling on East Maiden at that time who witnessed the incident and who has not talked to us to call police.”
Anyone with information is asked to call township police at 724-225-8111.
