Weather Service: Tornado touched down near Penn State
SPRING MILLS (AP) – Weather officials said a tornado traveling at 65 miles per hour touched down this week about 11 miles east of Penn State University’s main campus.
The Centre Daily Times reported the twister moved through Potter Township Monday, ripping down trees but causing no other damage.
The tornado formed during intense storms that produced pea-sized hail, menacing clouds and lightning and turned roadways into rivers.
A meteorologist from the National Weather Service told the newspaper the tornado was weak but still dangerous.
He said Pennsylvania could see more tornadoes in June and July.
