Small-town Western Pa. official jailed after six-hour SWAT standoff
McKEES ROCKS (AP) – Police say a small-town Western Pennsylvania politician engaged a SWAT team in a six-hour standoff after threatening his son with a bat and barricading himself in his home.
McKees Rocks borough council president Keith Schwab was jailed Sunday on charges of terroristic threats and recklessly endangerment.
An arraignment for the 53-year-old is scheduled for Monday. Online court records didn’t list a lawyer to comment on the charges.
Police say they called the SWAT team in after hearing what sounded like Schwab loading a rifle in the basement. They say he threatened officers.
The SWAT team used gas and a bean bag round to subdue Schwab after nearly six hours of negotiations.
Schwab’s wife and children fled the home. No injuries were reported.
McKees Rocks is about 4 miles from downtown Pittsburgh.
