Flenniken Public Library May events

Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels has a full schedule of upcoming programs, classes and events for May.

• People who might be working on a research paper or who have a burning question about technology, want to update their résumé or learn about their family history can take advantage of the library’s book-a-librarian program at any date. A person must only call the library to schedule an appointment. The participant will be paired with a knowledgeable library staff member who will assist them, based on the participant’s schedule.

• Teen Movie Monday, at which movies are shown based on popular young adult novels, will be held every Monday through May after school. Popcorn is provided. This month teens will be viewing “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”

• Preschool classes are held Saturdays at 11 a.m. with stories, song and crafts. The Tuesday class is already full. The classes are perfect for children ages 3 through 5 and their parents. Classes will run through May 16.

• Toddler Time is taught Fridays at 11 a.m. with stories, song and crafts. The class is perfect for toddlers up to 3 years old and parents. Classes will run through May 15.

• Summer classes will be held June 22 through the end of July. Regular classes will begin again this fall starting Sept. 15.

• The Book Club for Adults will discuss “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Book club meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Reserve your copy of the featured book at www.waggin.org.

• Participants of the Book Club for grades three through five are getting ready for the Greene County Reading Competition. Students are welcome to join the club May 7 at 5 p.m. for a final Jeopardy Night to prep for the May 12 competition.

• Teen Game Night will be held May 8, beginning at 3 p.m. Teens are invited to stop by to play board games, Wii, cards, role-playing games and more.

• Flenniken Library will hold a Thirty One Bingo Party May 9 at 3:00 p.m. For just $10, a person can play to five games and have a chance to win a Thirty One Shopping Spree. It’s also Children’s Book Week. A participant can increase his chances to win by donating new children’s books for the Greene County United Way’s annual “Stuff the Bus.”

• Greene County author John Dorean will speak at the library at 3 p.m. May 13. He will have copies of his books, “Murder in Greene County,” “Witness in Greene County,” and “Justice in Greene County” available at the event. Dorean will also be at the library at 6 p.m. May 14.

• Garden Club will meet at 11 a.m. May 16.

• Gale Courses, free six-week online classes, will begin May 20. Topics covered include accounting, grant writing, computer skills and Web design.

• In honor of Memorial Day, the library will be closed May 25.
