PennDOT to plug abandoned gas well along I-70 near Bentleyville

1 min read

The state Department of Transportation will close the eastbound ramps for a month at the Route 917 interchange along Interstate 70 in order to plug an abandoned natural gas well alongside the highway.

The ramps will close May 6 to allow Yost Drilling of Mount Morris to perform the nearly $70,000 project that is necessary in Somerset Township before PennDOT widens I-70 and constructs a new, nearby interchange at Bentleville, PennDOT spokeswoman Valerie Petersen said.

Construction is expected to begin in August on the $70 million I-70 project and be completed in three years.
