Drunken drivers, thief sentenced

WAYNESBURG – A Dilliner man who pleaded guilty to fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving under the influence of alcohol, his third offense in 10 years, was sentenced April 22 to five years in the county intermediate punishment program.

Charles Allen Stallman, 51, of 688 Taylortown Road, was sentenced by Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman. According to judge’s order, Stallman will serve the first 29 days of his sentence in jail and the following 365 days on house arrest with electronic GPS and alcohol monitoring.

In regard to his jail sentence, Stallman was permitted to participate in work release or serve the sentence on weekends. He also was fined $5,000. Because of a medical condition, Stallman was not required to participate in a community service requirement.

Stallman pleaded guilty Feb. 2 to fleeing or attempting to elude police, DUI, disorderly conduct and four summary traffic violations.

He was arrested after failing to pull his vehicle over for police who were attempting to stop him for a traffic violation. Police followed him for about a half hour before he stopped at his house. He had a blood-alcohol content of 0.186 percent.

In other business before the court, Terry L. Fonner, 50, of 395 Donnan Ave., Washington, who pleaded guilty Dec. 8 to DUI and two summary traffic violations, was sentenced April 23 to 4 days to 6 months in jail and fined $1,000.

Fonner was given credit for time served, four days, and determined to be eligible for parole.

Fonner was arrested following a traffic stop Feb. 20, 2009 in Cumberland Township. He had a BAC of 0.170 percent.

Roger Martin Ely, 51, of 270 Crago Ave., Waynesburg, who pleaded guilty earlier to DUI, second offense in 10 years, and a summary traffic violation, was sentenced April 23 to the county intermediate punishment program.

Ely was ordered to serve the first 45 days of the sentence under house arrest with an electronic GPS and alcohol monitor. He also was fined $750 and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.

Ely was arrested March 30, 2014 in Washington Township. He had a BAC of 0.109 percent.

Timothy Hilverding, 26, of 312 Sugar Run Road, Waynesburg, who earlier pled guilty to theft, was sentenced April 23 to the county intermediate punishment program.

Hilverding was ordered to serve 108 days of the sentence in jail. He was given credit for time served, 108 days, and determined to be eligible for parole. He was ordered to pay $150 in restitution.
