Man charged with 3rd-degree murder in elderly father’s death
WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in southeastern Pennsylvania have charged a man with third-degree murder in what they are calling the neglect death of his elderly father.
Sixty-one-year-old Edward O’Brien III of West Whiteland Township is also charged with theft and related offenses in the death of 92-year-old Edward O’Brien Jr., a World War II veteran and former U.S. Postal Service employee.
Prosecutors said the victim was found dead in his residence in September 2013 covered with bedsores and feces. They allege that the defendant removed his father from a rehabilitation facility more than two years earlier and then allowed the older man to die from neglect and also stole $30,000 from him.
A listed number for O’Brien couldn’t be found and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
