Wind Ridge mother suspected of DUI in crash that injured kids
Charges are pending against a Wind Ridge woman suspected of driving under the influence of prescription drugs when she crashed Wednesday afternoon with her two young children in the car.
State police said Dawn Renee Reed, 31, of 6 Wheeling Creek Mobile Home Park, admitted to troopers that she had used Suboxone and Klonopin before crashing into a pickup truck on Route 21 in Center Township shortly after 4 p.m.
Police said Reed and two unidentified children, ages 4 and 5, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Medics treated the children at the scene and Reed was taken to WHS-Greene hospital for blood to be drawn as evidence.
A witness following Reed, who was traveling eastbound, provided a “lengthy” cell video of her driving erratically before she crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into the pickup near Jacobs Creek Road, police said. Police did not identify the driver of the pickup truck, but said that person was not injured.
Charges of driving under the influence are pending the results of the blood test. Police said Reed did not have a prescription for the Suboxone and Klonopin she is accused of using.
Police plan to file child endangerment charges and multiple traffic citations at District Judge Louis Dayich’s office, although nothing has been filed as of Thursday morning, according to court records.
Firefighters from Graysville, Center and Richhill assisted state police at the scene. Reed’s car was towed from the scene.
