Man pleads no contest girlfriend’s Mother’s Day eve slaying
JOHNSTOWN (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania man pleaded no contest to third-degree murder for shooting his girlfriend about an hour before Mother’s Day last year, while her young child was present.
Twenty-six-year-old Kyle Rodgers entered the plea Thursday in Cambria County and faces a maximum of 20 to 40 years in prison when he’s sentenced Sept. 1.
Defense attorney Thomas Dickey told the (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat the shooting May 10, 2014 was an accident.
Dale Borough police said they responded and found Rodgers standing over 20-year-old Linsey Wolfe’s body, and he “said he shot Wolfe and that he was sorry.”
Police said the couple argued and Rodgers took a handgun and went downstairs, before Wolfe pushed him and the gun discharged. Officials said Wolfe’s son was present but not hurt.
