Man jailed, charged for assaulting girlfriend
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man is in Greene County jail on charges he threatened his girlfriend and her mother after a night of drinking late Sunday night before allegedly assaulting the younger woman in his car while driving in the borough.
Jeremiah J. Davis, 21, of 240 E. South St., was arraigned early Monday on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct, and placed in jail on $15,000 bond.
Waynesburg police said Davis was drinking with his girlfriend, Leann Leonard, at a bar celebrating her birthday when she left after Davis became intoxicated. Leonard went to her mother’s home and was followed by Davis shortly before midnight.
Police said Davis threatened Leonard and her mother, prompting Leonard to leave the house and get into his car in an attempt to defuse the situation.
While they were driving, police said Davis punched Leonard in the face three times and choked her in the car before allegedly threatening to kill her.
“I’ll snap your neck,” Davis allegedly told Leonard, according to court documents.
Leonard tried to “escape” while the car was stopped at Walnut and Bridge streets, police said. Davis got out of the car and pushed Leonard to the ground, police said, causing her to fall onto the sidewalk where she chipped several teeth and cut her knees and hands.
Davis left the scene when a nearby resident called police and came to assist Leonard. Medics treated Leonard’s injuries at the scene.
Davis was arrested about 4 a.m. Monday and arraigned by District Judge Glenn Bates. His preliminary hearing before Bates is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 20.
