Police Beat Aug. 11
DUI crash: Samuel J. Jurkovich, 57, of 334 Cloverdale Ave., Canonsburg, faces charges including driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license after he allegedly crashed into a sign on Adams Avenue Sunday night, Canonsburg police said.
Shed vandalized: A storage shed adjacent to the Canonsburg Borough Building had graffiti painted on it, Canonsburg police said. The damage was discovered about 5 a.m. Saturday.
Items stolen: Cody Goss of 608 Frederick Court told Canonsburg police Friday a 42-inch LCD television, X-box game player and 15 games were stolen from his home.
Woman bilked: Monteka Johnson of 420 Euclid Ave. told Canonsburg police Friday she was duped out of $2,200 when she tried to purchase a 2005 Toyota online from a seller who claimed to be getting rid of the vehicle because she was being deployed to Afghanistan. Johnson sent Green Dot cards to the seller. When she learned she needed to pay shipping, she contacted Ebay’s motor vehicle site and learned it was a scam.
Charged in crash: Travis Lee Adams, 31, of Wellsburg, W.Va., was arraigned Friday on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and reckless driving filed by state police stemming from a one-vehicle crash May 8 at Rex and Malone Ridge roads, Canton. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and released from Washington County jail after posting $10,000 bond.
Drug possession arrest: Nathan M. Heckman, 18, of Glen Dale, W.Va., was arrested Saturday by Hanover police at First Niagara Pavilion on charges of possession of cocaine, marijuana and paraphernalia and underage drinking after police said he was spotted in a vehicle trying to hide a cup as police walked past. Police said they found the suspected drugs in the vehicle. Heckman was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Threats, harassment charges: Michael A. Wilson, 21, of Johnstown, was charged Friday by Hanover police with terroristic threats and harassment after he allegedly screamed he had a gun during an incident Aug. 2 at First Niagara Pavilion. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka.
Assault, harassment charges: Jason A. Davis, 30, of 71 C St., Clarksville, was charged Friday by Hanover police with harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest stemming from a July 31 incident at First Niagara Pavilion. He allegedly hit an officer in the lip during a struggle to take him into custody. Police said they used pepper spray to subdue him. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka.
Assault, harassment charge: Richard D. Jones, 22, of Jeannette, was charged last week by Hanover police with simple assault, harassment and resisting arrest after he allegedly became combative with emergency medical personnel during an incident July 30 at First Niagara Pavilion. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka.
Assault, vandalism charges: Michael Lattimore of Bridgeville was arrested Saturday by Hanover police after he allegedly struck Jamar Jones in the ribs during a confrontation at First Niagara Pavilion. Police said Lattimore had his arm in a cast when he hit Jones. Police said Lattimore, who was arraigned as a John Doe after giving officers an incorrect name, vomited in the back of the police car. Lattimore was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of simple assault, harassment, institutional vandalism and false identification. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Two face charges: James M. Hart, 55, of Burgettstown, and Jerald Rodgers, 60, of Langeloth, each face charges stemming from a dispute Sunday afternoon over a property line at 764/770 Eldersville Road, Jefferson. State police said Hart allegedly pushed Rodgers, and Rodgers allegedly threatened Hart. Hart will be charged with harassment, while Rodgers will be charged with disorderly conduct.
Charged in crash: William Sowden, 56, of Long Branch, was charged by California police with DUI and restriction on alcoholic beverages after police say his vehicle crashed into a guardrail and caught fire Saturday night in the 100 block of Dally Road, Long Branch.
Paraphernalia charge: Kenneth Ryan Lyle, 28, of 315 Third St., McDonald, was charged Monday by McDonald police with possession of paraphernalia after police were called to his home Saturday after a reported overdose. Police said they found more than 20 empty heroin stamp bags and other items at his home.
Burglary arrest: Takoda Timothy Runco, 22, of 2331 Hamton Road, Eighty Four, was arrested Friday on a warrant obtained by Monongahela police on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. He is accused of kicking in a door at 245 Gregg St. July 25. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond.
Vehicle crash: Nicholas Crossman of 546 Center Church Road, McMurray, was slightly injured after crashing his vehicle about 7:10 a.m. Sunday on Route 519 at the roundabout with Brownlee Road, North Strabane police said. Police said he was going south on Route 519 through the roundabout at an apparent high speed when his vehicle went over a traffic island, hit a curb and flipped end over end, coming to rest in a nonactive construction zone.
Assault arrest: Scott Wayne Ayres, 44, of 900 Thomas-Eighty Four Road, was arrested early Sunday by North Strabane police on charges of simple assault and harassment after he allegedly struck Christina Bennett, 35, in the face and choked her during a confrontation at their home. She was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment. Ayres told police she bit him on the thumb. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Disorderly charges: Mark David Caskey, 53, of 41 Linn Farm Road, North Strabane, and John A. Kitchen, 52, of 1502 Route 519, Eighty Four, were charged by North Strabane police with disorderly conduct after police were called about 11:15 p.m. Friday for a report of loud music. Police said they received numerous reports in the past for similar issues.
Trespass charge: Daniel R. Bradwell, 18, of 3 Moore Lane, Cecil, was charged last week by North Strabane police with criminal trespass, public drunkenness and underage drinking after he allegedly entered a home at 99 Old Farm Road July 25 without permission. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Charged in crash: William W. Chambers, 36, of 12 S. Main St., Houston, was charged last week by North Strabane police with leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license after he allegedly struck a building at Greenery Rehabilitation, 2200 Route 519, June 1. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka.
Charged after crash: Marlous Lasa Johnson, 31, of 11 Smith Place, Canonsburg, was charged last week by North Strabane police with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a crash, careless driving and not having a license stemming from a July 20 chain-reaction crash on Route 19. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Assault, harassment arrest: Gary Mader, 66, of 1005 Henry St., Langeloth, was arrested Sunday by Smith police on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after he allegedly knocked over a burn barrel on property of Richard Hilliard and struck Hilliard with an unknown object during a confrontation at 904 Mary St. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and released on $10,000 unsecured bond.
Charged in assault: Clayton J. Crawford, 31, of 4 Hillcrest Ave., Burgettstown, was arrested Sunday by Smith police on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, DUI, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and not having insurance or registration for his vehicle. Police stopped after seeing his vehicle in the middle of Townsite Road. Police said he wrestled with the officer trying to take him into custody and also threatened police. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and released on $50,000 unsecured bond.
Theft arrest: Patricia A. Davis, 23, of Pittsburgh, was arrested Saturday by South Strabane police after she allegedly stole $150 in clothing from Oshkosh B’Gosh at Tanger Outlets. She was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on a charge of retail theft and released on her own recognizance.
False information: Lavon R. Mickens, 23, of Merrittstown, Fayette County, was charged Friday by South Strabane police with providing false information on a gun purchase application and unsworn falsification after he allegedly provided false information while trying to buy a handgun at Ace Sporting Goods, Washington Road, in January. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Drug charges: Misty Shider, 36, of 928 Pike Run Road, Coal Center, and David Sterling Wright, 46, of 1211 Bentleyville Road, VanVoorhis, were charged last week by South Strabane police with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia stemming from a May 23 incident at Motel 6, 1283 Motel 6 Drive. The charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Theft charge: Jessica Lynn Thompson of Pittsburgh was charged by South Strabane police with theft last week after she allegedly stole money from a clerk at Tim Horton’s, 1 Park Place, during a quick-change scheme July 16. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
One injured: Verla R. Rose, 61, of Tionesta, was injured Saturday afternoon when she was involved as one of the drivers in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 79 southbound, South Strabane. The other drivers were identified as Michelle R. Wade, 37, of Canfield, Ohio, and Shane J. Tompkins, 18, of Cranberry Township.
Plywood reported stolen: A contractor told South Strabane police Friday 18 pieces of plywood valued at $720 were stolen from the highway construction site at Route 19 and Interstate 70 westbound.
Drug arrest: Denzell Johnson, 28, of 928 McKean Ave., Donora, was arrested Friday by Charleroi Regional police on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin and Clonazepam, possession of paraphernalia and false identification to police. He was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on State Street in Speers. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Shots fired: A resident of South Park Mobile Estates told Southwest Regional police Thursday he could hear shots fired in the area of Route 88 Extension. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-929-8484.
Club cited: The operators of the Alpine Club, 735 Jefferson Ave., Washington, were cited by the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement with allowing gambling devices or paraphernalia on the premises May 13.
Drug arrest: Courtney Orgovan, 23, of 40 Bel Air Drive, Canton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance Sunday after a traffic stop. Police said they found 10 empty stamp bags marked “Kingpin” both outside and inside Orgovan’s vehicle at the corner of Grove Avenue and West Chestnut Street. According to a report, she then allowed police to search her purse, where they said they found a full stamp bag of heroin.
Assault charge: Kevin Brown, 22, of 147 Church Street, was arrested for simple assault and harassment after a verbal argument reportedly turned into a physical domestic dispute June 8. The alleged female victim told police she was grabbed and thrown to the ground several times by Brown, who then punched her several times in the face. She said only one or two blows landed because she blocked them, and fled from the residence with her child.
Drug, alcohol charges: Billie Jo Burnsworth, 31, of 1073 Addison Street, was arrested for drug possession and having an open alcoholic container when the vehicle in which she was a passenger was stopped May 29. Police said after stopping a vehicle that nearly backed into an officer’s car in the 1100 block of Sycamore Street, they found 10 syringes, 13 empty stamp bags, two crack pipes, a metal spoon and an open can of beer in a bag belonging to Burnsworth.
Grill stolen: Christopher McCune, 45, of 64 W. Walnut St., was charged with receiving stolen property after a resident of the 200 block of Linn Avenue reported that his $58 portable grill had been sold by McCune to Route 19 E-Z Cash. The alleged victim said he had allowed McCune to stay at his residence.
Burglary: Lawrence Patterson, 23, of 772 S. Central Ave., Canonsburg, was arrested Aug. 9 on charges he burglarized the home of his ex-girlfriend and assaulted her when she confronted him. Patterson faces charges of burglary, simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property after allegedly entering a residence in the 600 block of Ewing Street, unhooking a Playstation 4 video game system and punching the woman.
