Police: Speed a factor in fatal Robinson Twp. crash
A Bulger man was killed Sunday night in a one-vehicle crash on Midway-Candor Road near Shaffer Road in Robinson Township, about a mile-and-a-half from his home.
Joshua E. Daugherty, 25, of Midway-Candor Road, was driving northwest about 11:40 p.m. when his vehicle went off the road and traveled about 460 feet. Daugherty was found about 88 feet from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple injuries early Monday, said Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.
Daugherty was traveling at a high speed based on the distance from where his four-door Subaru sedan to where it came to rest, said McDonald police Officer Brad Resnik. A witness to the crash, a friend of Daugherty, also told police that was traveling at a high rate of speed.
“We believe he was ejected from the vehicle before it caught fire,” Resnik said. “The vehicle rolled several times, coming to rest on its wheels before catching fire.” Resnik said Daugherty had reportedly been at a hockey game and then went to a Washington area restaurant with friends. The investigation is continuing, but does not anticipate charges being filed, the officer added.
Assisting were McDonald and Midway firefighters and crews from Northwest Ambulance.
