New business opens its doors in Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG – Business was blooming in the borough Wednesday as The Ivy Green Florist opened shop on High Street.
The new florist shop in the Victoria Square building is branching out from its current location in Washington.
Melissa Mega of Lone Pine, the owner since 2002, felt the business had the ability to expand and Waynesburg looked like a good place to grow.
“I feel there is room for it down here,” Mega said Wednesday. “I am looking forward to becoming an active member in the Waynesburg community, and I’m really looking forward to doing business down here.”
Waynesburg has only one other florist in town. Perfect Arrangements is located less than a mile away from Mega’s shop, but she believes that won’t affect her business.
“There is always room for more than one of the same business,” Mega said. “There’s more than one pizza shop, more than one hair salon. I think it’s good for business.”
Mega’s business is a full-service flower shop offering everyday flowers, special occasion arrangements, wedding flowers and other types of floral decorations.
She plans to create a “shabby chic” look for the shop, along with getting involved with Waynesburg University and the community.
“We want to be able to deliver to more and more of Greene County, not just Waynesburg,” Mega said. “We want to tap into all of those aspects of the market and just continue to grow the business.”
For now, the shop is somewhat empty since Mega just opened the doors to orders Wednesday morning, but flowers were already present and being formed into beautiful arrangements in the back room.
“There is still a little dust to settle yet,” Mega said. “I want to obviously meet my expectations here and then just keep it really solid and grow it slowly and have a good business within the community.”
The Ivy Green Florist shop in Waynesburg is open weekdays from 10 to 4 p.m. For more information, call 724-802-7109.
