Dan Reitz is a gourmet cook during his time outside his job as executive director for the Washington County Council on Economic Development, so anyone could tell he was happy to announce Wednesday the Starpointe Business Park netted a new tenant that will put food on the table.

Samuels and Son Seafood Co. of Pittsburgh was casting about for a location with access to Pittsburgh International Airport and the lure turned out to be Hanover Township’s access to the Findlay Connector of the Southern Beltway.

The company’s fishmongering in Philadelphia goes back several generations, according to a website post by Sam D’Angelo, owner. The company deals in full lines of fresh, frozen and cooked products. Listed among its monthly specials are saku tuna, “chipirones,” which are little Spanish squid, plus several varieties of shrimp and crab, scallops, shellfish, mussels, clams, oysters, condiments, and among its terrestrial selections, lamb and mushrooms.

Samuels and Son plans to construct a 25,000-square-foot building with the capacity to expand on 3.12 acres, known as Lot No. 12. The sale price is $202,800.

“We’re hoping to close at the end of the month,” Reitz told the county commissioners at an agenda-setting session Wednesday morning, and the firm hopes to begin construction this summer or fall. Samuels and Son is in the process of designing its site and applying for permits. Construction is expected to take 10 months before opening in late spring 2016.

Initially, there will 40 employees at the site with a projection of a total of 50 or more within the first year after the building’s completion.

“They supply about 120 of the higher-end fish-seafood restaurants in the tri-state area,” Reitz said.

Samuels and Son “will have a small retail component,” and those who live in the vicinity can also make purchases online at www.samuelsandsonseafood.com.
