Washington man arrested after allegedly threatening others with a box cutter

A Washington man was arrested Wednesday night by Canonsburg police after he allegedly threatened fellow patrons at a North Jefferson Avenue bar with a box cutter.
Charles M. Earlywine, 40, of 108 ½ Brady Ave., was charged with two counts each of simple assault and reckless endangerment and one count each of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and harassment.
Police were called about 11:30 p.m. to D’s Locker Room, 26 N. Jefferson Ave., to remove an intoxicated, unruly patron who would not leave after being asked to several times by the bartender. The bartender told police he tried to pull Earlywine out of the bar, but the Washington man pulled and shoved back.
The bartender, who also owns the bar, told police Earlywine was a problem all night, trying to fight other customers. The bartender told police Earlywine went to the pool room in the back of the building to start more problems and he might be in possession of a knife or switchblade.
When police were in the back hallway near the pool room, Officer Anthony Cancilla spotted Earlywine blocking the doorway to that room. Cancilla said he saw Earlywine holding a box cutter in his right hand. Several patrons were yelling at Earlywine to calm down and put down the box cutter.
Police told Earlywine to put down the box cutter or one of the officers would use his Taser. After he allegedly ignored several orders to put it down, one of the officers used the Taser on Earlywine’s back and chest. Several patrons told police that Earlywine threatened to harm them.
At the police station, Earlywine reportedly apologized to officers, telling them he was too drunk and did not realize they were at the bar.
Earlywine was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. He faces a Sept. 2 preliminary hearing before Mark.
