Coal Center man arrested after scuffle with police

A Coal Center man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly scuffling with a Cecil Township police officer trying to take him into custody inside a restroom at a Southpointe hotel.
Gerard Schuster, 33, of 32 Chestnut St., was taken into custody inside a restroom at Hilton Garden Inn, Corporate Drive, after police received a complaint of men smoking marijuana. Police opened the door and could smell burnt marijuana.
Schuster was seen standing in front of the sinks. Police indicated in court documents when Schuster spotted police, he tried to conceal a wooden object in his pocket. When police tried to grab his hand, Schuster reportedly pushed the officer away with his other hand. Police tried to place Schuster in handcuffs, but he held his arms at his side. Police then took him to the floor and handcuffed him. He also reportedly tried to kick out the feet from under one of the officers. While at the station, Schuster reportedly told Officer Adam Nida he wanted to put a fist through the officer’s face.
Another man ran into a far bathroom stall, locked the door and flushed the toilet. He also struggled with police, but it was not clear what charges he is facing. Cecil police could not be reached Monday.
Schuster was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of aggravated assault, harassment, simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and possession of paraphernalia. He was released from Washington County jail later Sunday morning after posting $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 28 at the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
