PITTSBURGH (AP) – Authorities in western Pennsylvania said a fire in a Pittsburgh apartment killed an 18-month-old girl and critically injured another young child.

Public safety officials said the blaze was reported shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the unit in the Spring Hill section of the city.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Nina Risher was pronounced dead less than an hour later at UPMC-Mercy.

Officials said a man was reported in serious condition and six other people were taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
