The 62nd Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Queen Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in Carmichaels High School Auditorium.

The Coal Queen candidates represent 13 school districts in Southwestern Pennsylvania and were chosen by preliminary pageants at their schools. Doors open to the public at 6 p.m.

The contestants are Sarah Campbell of Albert Gallatin High School; Megan Keruskin of Beth-Center High School; Dominique Brown of Brownsville High School; Katlyn Allison of Carmichaels Area High School; Keely Smiley of Connellsville Area High School; Morgan DeWitt of Geibel Catholic High School; Kayla Pendland of Jefferson-Morgan High School; Anna Strauser of Laurel Highlands High School; Sara Cumpston of Mapletown High School; Morgan Coyle of Trinity High School; Alexis Wivell of Uniontown Area High School; Elayne LoFiego of Waynesburg Central High School; and Amanda Frampton of West Greene High School.

Last year’s Bituminous Coal Queen was Alyssa Gallagher.

Not only does the King Coal Show hold the Coal Queen pageant, it also is a weeklong festival to honor and celebrate the history of coal and how it helped to build America.

There are several events throughout the week beginning Saturday that will culminate with the “Coal Built America” themed parade on Aug. 29th at 4 p.m. in Carmichaels.
