City seeks to discipline those involved in barrage
CLEVELAND – Thirteen Cleveland police officers who fired guns during a 137-shot barrage that killed two unarmed people after a high-speed chase were notified they face administrative discipline.
The city released disciplinary letters Thursday. The 13 officers include Patrolman Michael Brelo, who was acquitted in May of manslaughter charges for having fired the last 15 shots in East Cleveland Nov. 29, 2012.
Brelo remains suspended without pay, while the other officers are limited to desk duty.
All the officers were cited for joining the chase and leaving the city without permission. Many were cited for endangering other officers by creating a crossfire situation. No officers were injured during the barrage.
A union official said the discipline will be contested during hearings.
