Ringgold eyes property next to high school
NEW EAGLE – Ringgold School District will consider purchasing more than three acres of property next to its high school to create a much-needed second entrance to the campus.
The school board, at a meeting Tuesday in the district offices in New Eagle, authorized Washington attorney David Posner to begin negotiations with Natalie Biagini to purchase 3.2 acres of her property along Route 136 in Carroll Township.
“There are issues with a cell tower that need to be worked out,” board Vice President William Stein Jr. said following the meeting.
District Superintendent Karen Polkabla said Biagini contacted the district expressing her interest in selling the property to Ringgold.
The board also authorized Hampton Technical Associates of Pittsburgh to create a lot consolidation plan for the high school at a cost of $4,500.
In other business, Polkabla said students at Ringgold Elementary School North will experience minor inconveniences during the upcoming school term because construction is under way on creating new classrooms, a cafeteria and a security entrance there at a cost of $9 million.
Polkabla said the temporary inconvenience, such as relocating students in the building, would end with big improvements to the school in Union Township.
Stein said the work is expected to be completed in May 2016.
