County plans to build ‘splash zone’ at pool
Plans are under way to bring a children’s “splash zone” to the Carmichaels Pool at Wana B Park.
The Greene County commissioners voted Thursday to spend $19,500 to hire Wade Associates, a Harrisburg-based aquatics consultant, to prepare engineering designs on what can be done to improve and restore the aging facility.
County Recreation Director Jake Blaker said the study will determine what should be installed in the new children’s splash pool that will replace the outdated wading area. He said the attraction will be similar to the Alpha Aquatics Center in Franklin Township.
“All we have in there right now is a wading pool,” Blaker said of the children’s area. “We’ll now put a play area in there with fountains, and it will be interactive.”
The wading pool, which Blaker said has experienced problems in recent years, will be removed and the larger splash zone will be built in its place. It also will replace the filtration and pump systems.
The area will be handicap accessible.
The total cost of the project is expected to be between $275,000 and $300,000, Blaker said, and will be completed before next season.
No changes will be made to the existing adult pool.
