Coroner called after pedestrian hit by vehicle on highway

UNIONTOWN (AP) – The coroner has been called after a pedestrian was hit by a sport-utility vehicle on a busy highway in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

State police say the incident happened about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on Pittsburgh Road in North Union Township. That section of road, also known as state Route 51, is about 35 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Police planned to release additional details later in the day.

It was not immediately clear whether police planned to cite or charge the driver.

The identity of the pedestrian hasn’t been released by police and the Fayette County coroner’s office.
