Four men charged in N. Strabane disturbance

2 min read

Four men, including the alleged victim, were charged last week by North Strabane Township police in connection with what started out as a disturbance inside the bar of a Racetrack Road hotel and ended with a reported assault outside the building.

Marcus Vinicius Oliveira, 26, who gave addresses on Spring Meadows Road in Venetia and in Miami, Fla., was charged with simple assault for allegedly punching Michael Patrick Edmonds, 32, of Druid Drive, McMurray, outside Hyatt Place, 212 Racetrack Road, Aug. 13. Edmonds was cited with harassment, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and public drunkenness for his alleged role in the incident.

Also cited with harassment are Alcibiades Arnaldo Perez, 55, of Pompano Bay, Fla., and Gabriel Ernesto Perez, 46, of Spring Meadows Road, Venetia. Police identified the two Perezes and Oliveira as employees of the hotel.

When police arrived at the hotel, after getting a report of a fight at the entrance with a man down on the road, they found Edmonds laying on the road at Meadows Drive near Adios Lane. Four men, including Oliveira and the two Perezes, were standing nearby along with Meadows security officers.

Edmonds, who police said appeared to be intoxicated, denied being injured and could not tell police what happened.

A witness told police Edmonds caused a disturbance inside the hotel bar and tried to start a fight with him when Oliveira and the two Perezes stepped in.

Gabriel Perez, identified by police as the hotel’s general manager, allegedly told Edmonds to leave, but the McMurray man reportedly refused and began fighting with the three other men.

The altercation reportedly continued at the end of the hotel parking lot, where Edmonds fell onto Meadows Drive. The three denied hitting Edmonds, but police obtained surveillance from The Meadows Casino that reportedly shows them chasing Edmonds around Meadows Drive after Edmonds swats at Oliveira. Alcibiades Arnaldo Perez is seen grabbing Edmonds by the shirt, and he and Oliveira are shown swinging at the McMurray man, police said. Oliveira is reportedly shown punching Edmonds. At that point, police say the McMurray man fell to the ground and was kicked by Oliveira and the older Perez, while Gabriel Perez threw a shoe or sandal at him.

Edmonds was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment.

All four are scheduled for a hearing or summary trials on Sept. 28 before District Judge Jay Weller.
