Police beat Aug. 27
Lights damaged: An employee at South Central Elementary School told Canonsburg police Tuesday newly installed lights in the parking lot near the corner of South Central Avenue and Elm Street were damaged by vandals.
Driver injured: Margaret C. Kotyk, 81, of Chartiers, was injured Sunday afternoon when her vehicle went off Route 519 near Ullom Road and traveled 50 feet before sideswiping trees, Chartiers police said. The vehicle slid another 25 feet before coming to rest near some trees. Kotyk was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.
Bicycle stolen: Jill Murphy, of Washington, told Chartiers police her bicycle valued at $300 was stolen Friday from the lot at Washington County Health Center, Old Hickory Ridge Road.
Motorcyclist injured: Stephen J. Schidek, 32, of Cuddy, was injured when he crashed his motorcycle in the 500 block of Arthurs Road Sunday, Chartiers police said.
Club cited: The operators of the American Rusin Club, 502 McKean Ave., Donora, were cited Wednesday by the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for allegedly allowing gambling or gambling devices July 21.
Drug charges: Laura Briggs, 41, of Bethel Park, was charged last week by North Strabane police with possession of Diazepam, marijuana and paraphernalia stemming from an Aug. 15 traffic stop at Washington and Galley roads. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Charged in crash: Jack C. Smith, 67, of 192 Broadmore Drive, Washington, was charged by North Strabane police with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid as a result of an Aug. 19 hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Racetrack Road and Meadowlands Boulevard. Police said he reportedly backed into another vehicle and then left. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Identity theft: William M. Morris Jr., 32, of 17 Thayer St., Washington, was charged last week by South Strabane police with access device fraud and identity theft for allegedly used credit card information on a card owned by a South Strabane woman to make an online purchase of items valued at $258.95 he had delivered to his home in May. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Tools, drills stolen: Thomas Yohe, 37, of 3460 Route 136, Monongahela, was charged by South Strabane police with theft and theft from a motor vehicle after he allegedly was caught on surveillance stealing two drills and a tool belt containing tools from a van parked Aug. 15 in the lot at Walmart, Trinity Point. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Vehicle entered: John Binotto of Canonsburg told South Strabane police early Wednesday headphones, Ray Ban sunglasses and a wallet were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at 437 Independence Boulevard. Police said it appears another vehicle on the street also may have been entered.
Driver charged: Robert E. Boyd, 42, of 155 Waynesburg Road, Washington, was charged Monday by South Strabane police with leaving the scene of a crash, driving with a suspended license and failure to render aid after he allegedly crashed into a motorcycle on East Maiden Street at Vance Station Road Aug. 14. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Apartment burglarized: Jonay King of the 500 block of West Chestnut Street told Washington police early Wednesday a PlayStation 4 was stolen from her apartment.
Lug nuts removed: David Hart of 550 Jefferson Ave. told Washington police Tuesday he found his vehicle on cinder blocks and the lug nuts removed from the tires.
Woman assaulted: Cody Eniex of Washington told Washington police Tuesday she was punched in the head and knocked to the ground by another woman outside Washington Christian Outreach, 119 Highland Ave.
Church burglarized: Washington police said $20, a $25 Amazon gift card, laptop computer and loose change were stolen in a burglary Tuesday at Christian Church of North America, 605 Shirls Ave. Police said it appears the burglar broke a metal door on the west side of the building to enter. Offices also were entered.
Possession charge: Troy S. Ethridge, 28, of 550 Jefferson Ave., will be charged with possession of a controlled substance. According to a report, Washington police were called to 95 Leonard Ave. June 5 for a man sleeping on a bench. As an officer approached Etheridge, he placed money in his shoe. When the officer asked Etheridge if he could see the money, he handed it over. Police said two stamp bags of suspected heroin were found inside the money. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of Disrict Judge Robert Redlinger.
