Firefighters battling blaze at Scranton tire warehouse

1 min read

SCRANTON (AP) – Fire crews are battling a stubborn blaze at a northeastern Pennsylvania tire warehouse.

Firefighters have been hosing down flames at the Sandone Tire warehouse in Scranton since around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials say between 4,000 and 5,000 tires are on fire at the warehouse, which houses an estimated 20,000 tires.

Scranton Fire Chief Patrick DeSarno says every tire will need to be removed to make sure the blaze is extinguished.

DeSarno says crews began pumping foam onto the fire around 9 p.m. The building’s roof caved in just before midnight.

Firefighters inside the warehouse are dealing with heavy smoke and officials say they haven’t determined the origin of the fire.

DeSarno says crews were pulled out to switch to an external attack.
