Former Pa. newspaper publisher Hourigan dies

WILKES-BARRE – Edward P. Hourigan, a former publisher of The Citizens’ Voice in Wilkes-Barre, has died.

Hourigan, who worked in the newspaper industry for decades, served as the paper’s publisher from 1991 until he retired in 1994.

He was 77 when he died Aug. 15 at St. Luke’s Villa in Wilkes-Barre following an illness.

Hourigan grew up in Mountain Top.

He graduated from Wyoming Seminary and later joined the U.S. Air Force. He completed his education at Mitchel College of Long Island University.

In addition to working for Wilkes-Barre Publishing Co., where his father was a vice president, Hourigan led newspapers in Virginia and Ohio before returning to Pennsylvania.
