1 min read

McDonald police and the Washington County DUI Task Force arrested nine suspected drunken drivers and another four on charges during a DUI checkpoint that started Tuesday night and concluded early Wednesday in the 2900 block of Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township.

Police said that 720 vehicles were stopped during the checkpoint.

The checkpoint was suspended several times to alleviate congestion when traffic started to back up.

Joseph N. Bittner, 24, of Bridgeport, Ohio, was charged Friday by police with possession of paraphernalia and marijuana after he was stopped during the checkpoint early Wednesday.

Police said Bittner had a marijuana grinder, bag of suspected marijuana and a used syringe in a pants pocket and a digital scale in another pocket.

Police also found a suspected marijuana pipe in his car.

The charges will be sent by summons from the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
