Charge dismissed

1 min read

At the request of the district attorney’s office, an assault charge against Dawn Byrd, 45, of 54 Stonecrest Lane, Cecil, was dismissed Friday in Washington County Court.

In April, Cecil Township police charged Byrd with assaulting her son with a knife in her home. The alleged victim preferred not to pursue the charge, and the prosecution said a knife was never used.

Judge Valarie Costanzo agreed to dismiss the charge, complying with Assistant District Attorney Leslie Ridge’s request that Byrd, who was not present in court, bear the costs of prosecution.

Since her arraignment before Senior District Judge Jay Dutton, Byrd had been free on $2,500 unsecured bond.
