Preliminary hearing for two in shooting case continued
A preliminary hearing for two men, one from East Washington and the other from Pittsburgh, accused in a shooting on Shannon Avenue in Washington last month was continued.
Shaquane Brucecome Yarbrough, 20, of 22 Thayer Street, and Nasstylejah N. Wilkerson, 18, of Pittsburgh, were scheduled to appear Monday before District Judge Robert Redlinger. The hearing was continued at the request of the prosecutors and was rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16.
Yarbrough and Wilkerson, along with 14-year-old Mason Fortunato, also of 22 Thayer, were taken into custody after a brief foot chase following the daylight shooting Aug. 17. A fourth man was able to get away. Police are attempting to learn his identity.
Shots reportedly were fired at a man and woman at Shannon and Oak Alley. The two alleged victims had a 3-month-old girl with them. They were not hit by gunfire.
After the shooting, the four suspects ran off in the direction of Burton Avenue, and three were taken into custody near the Ambulance and Chair garage. Two guns were recovered with the help of a utility worker, police Chief Chris Luppino said.
Wilkerson was the victim in a July 31 shooting on Fayette Street. Luppino said his hand remains in a cast from injuries he suffered in that incident. Wilkerson still has not identified who shot him, Luppino added.
Yarbrough and Wilkerson both face charges including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, firearms violations and receiving stolen property.
Luppino said Fortunato was turned over to juvenile probation officers and faces similar charges in a juvenile allegation that will be filed against him.
